Staff

California Field Hockey Camp is directed by Shellie Onstead, Head Coach, U.C. Berkeley. A former U.S.A. National Field Hockey Team player, Onstead has coached at Cal since 1983 and has been the head coach since 1995. A five time Nor Pac Conference Coach of the Year, Onstead has guided the Bears to a consistent Top 20 Ranking and 7 NCAA appearances.

In addition to coaching at Cal, Onstead has held numerous positions at the National and International level.

Onstead was assistant coach for the US Women's National team which competed at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Since 2009, she has been the Head Coach for the USA Women's National U17 team. The U17 team placed third at the inaugural Youth Pan American Championship in Uruguay in 2010.

In 2012, Onstead is working with the Women's U21 team as an assistant coach for the Junior Pan Am Championships in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Onstead has also served as head coach for several international tours with US U19 and U16 teams. In 2002, Onstead was an analyst for the US women's World Cup team that placed 9th in Perth, Australia. Prior to that, she assisted with the US men's teams at both the junior and senior levels, including serving as the head coach to the men's U16 National team for three years, during which she was honored as U.S.A, Field Hockey Association's National Coach of the Year in 1999.

She has served as a selector and coach at A Camp for both the men and women. In 2005, she was the Assistant Coach for the Under 21 Men's Team at the Jr. Pan American Games in Havana, Cuba. In April '05, Onstead helped coach the U.S. Junior Elite Girls team on tour in Holland.

Currently the head coach for the California High Performance Training Center, Onstead is responsible for the development and training of regional talent for the women and juniors.

Staff

Camp staff is hand selected by Coach Onstead for their teaching ability and passion for coaching. They typically consist of qualified local coaches, international guests, and both former and current college players. All coaches use a master curriculum developed and master taught by Coach Onstead.
